The temple has the inspiration from the famous Jagannath Temple of Puri. This is a perfect place for the Oriya devotees residing in Delhi. It is located at Tyagraj Nagar near Safdarjung Bus Terminal in New Delhi. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath. The entire temple is built of white marble and the architecture is extremely beautiful.

The temple has the shape of a Lotus flower located to the east of Nehru palace in Delhi. This is a very beautiful tourist attraction and definitely a treat to the eyes. Built in pure white marble surrounded by lush green gardens, the temple’s beauty is incomparable. It was designed by architect Furiburz Sabha who chose Lotus, as it serves a common symbol to Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Islam.

Yogmaya Temple – South

This is an ancient temple located in Mehrauli in New Delhi. It is dedicated to Goddess Yogmaya, sister of Lord Krishna. It is believed that the Pandavas built this temple during the end of the war in Mahabharata. The temple covers an area of 260 yards. It is one among the 51 shaktipeethas.

It is believed when Yogmaya was born to mother Yashoda, Kansa tried killing her by hitting her head on a slab of stone but she flew away. She was a pure goddess and it is also believed that the head of the goddess has fallen in this holy spot.

Kali Mandir, Chittaranjan Park – South

This is a famous Kali Mandir in Delhi located in Chittaranjan Park, New Delhi. It is also known as “Kali Bari”. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple started as Shiva Mandir in 1973 and gradually developed in having huge idols of Goddess Kali, Shiva, and Radha Krishna.

The temple is built in the popular Terracotta architecture of Bengal. It is more vibrant with the gathering of Bengali community people during the festival of Durga Puja. Kalkaji Mandir / Temple – South

The temple is situated in Kalkaji and dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is also known as “Manokamna Siddha Peetha” signifying the fulfillment of the desires of all devotees. The idol of Goddess Kalka here is self-manifested belonging to Satya Yuga when Goddess Kalika killed Raktabija along with other demons.

The temple resides on the Suryakoot Parvat Ranges. It is the second largest temple in Delhi after Akshardham. It spans around an area of 60 acres. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani. It consists of many large and small temples dedicated to different gods and goddesses. The temple architecture has a perfect blending of Northern and Southern style. It spreads across the Chhatarpur Road.

There is a special resting place of Goddess Katyayani in the temple called “Shhaya Kaksh” decorated with bed and a silver dressing table. ISKCON Temple, East of Kailash – South

ISKCON is a world famous temple which is located in the eastern region of Kailash in Delhi on the top of Hare Krishna Hills. ISKON strictly follows Vaishnava. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. The temple offers Aarti to the deities six times a day and offers Bhog to devotees after prayers.

The temple has its walls decorated by the Russian artists and the main structure has a 90 ft. Shikhara. Hanuman Mandir, Connaught Place – Central

This is one of the oldest temples in India located in Connaught Place at Baba Kharak Singh Marg. It is believed to be one amongst the five temples built by the Pandavas during the period of Mahabharata. The temple has a self-manifested statue of Lord Hanuman facing towards the south, his right hand resting over his chest in the form of prayer and his left-hand holding the “Gadha”.

Gauri Shankar Temple – Old

This is an 800-year-old temple located in Old Delhi near Digambar Jain Lal Mandir in Chandni Chowk. The temple belongs to Lord Shiva.The Shiva linga here is 800 years old surrounded by Snakes made of Silver which symbolizes life. The temple also has idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati wearing gold jewelry under the Shiva Linga and idol of Lord Shiva and Parvati with their two sons Lord Ganesha and Karthik.

There is a water vessel made of silver above Shiva Linga from where water continuously falls on the Lingham. The Temple is a perfect place for the Shavities.

Hanuman Mandir, Jhandewalan – West

This temple is a remarkable destination in Delhi with its 108 ft. statue of Lord Hanuman. The grand statue attracts a number of devotees to this temple mostly on Tuesdays. The temple has its unusual entrance carved in the face of Lord Hanuman followed by a passage leading to the main hall.

Shri Sheetla Mata Mandir

Popularly known as “Shakti Peeth” this temple is located about 1.5 km from Delhi near a pond. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Sheetala. “Sheetala” as the name suggests refers to disease like smallpox. Anyone suffering from the dangerous disease if prays to Sheetala Mata she cures the patient for sure.

The idol of Mata Sheetala here is made of mixed metal polished in Gold and kept in a wooden casket on a small marble platform in the temple. The statue of Goddess Sheetala weighs around 4 kg. This is a very popular place and holds high religious importance.

Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir

This is a Jain Temple in Chandni Chowk area of New Delhi across red fort. The temple is made of red sandstone also known as “Lal Mandir”. The main idol of this temple is of Tirthankara parshva along with two other idols. The land of this temple was given to Agarwal Jain community by Shah Jahan during the Mughal reign.

The temple did not have a Shikhara till the Mughal ruled as it was prohibited by the Mughals and only after India’s independence it was reconstructed again for the Shikhara. Due to which it is known as “Naya Mandir” also.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple

The Most popular Birla Mandir also known as Lakshmi Narayan Mandir is a favorite sight for all tourists traveling to Delhi. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his wife Goddess Lakshmi. The temple was built by B.R. Birla from 1933 to 1939. The temple covers an area of 7.5 acres surrounded by fountains and gardens.

The temple consists of many idols of the other deities and becomes a major attraction during Janmashtami and Diwali. This temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939 who also opened the gates of the temple to all caste and religion. It is one of the oldest temples in Delhi.

Mangal Mahadeva Birla Kanan

This is a Hindu Temple located in Shivaji Marg, New Delhi. The temple stands out from the rest due to its large statues of Lord Shiva and other Gods. The huge idol of Lord Shiva is visible from this Temple on the way from Delhi to Gurgaon through NH-8. The huge statue of Lord Shiva here is popularly known as “Mangal Mahadev” which is 100 ft. high.

There are also idols of Mata Parvati, Karthikeyan, Ram-Sita, Nandi Bull, Radha Krishna and Lord Ganesha all in shimmery bronze metal. The temple is surrounded by gardens on either side through which one can also enter the Temple.

Prachin Shani Mandir

This temple is located in Sector 45, Gurgaon and is dedicated to Lord Shanidev holding high religious importance. There is an old Peepul tree near the temple which is considered to be extremely holy and the devotees worship it by offering their prayers for a prosperous life.

The temple is mostly crowded by devotees in Saturday as this day is officially dedicated for worshipping Lord Shanidev. Shanidev is believed to be the god of honesty and a well-wisher for the right things. The devotees here offer their prayers by sesame oil, iron nails and til followed by a parikrama and lighting diyas.

Ladakh Buddhist Vihara – North

This is a very colorful Buddhist monastery located amidst Delhi crowd. It is dedicated to Lord Buddha with a huge shrine of Buddha in it. The place is also a small Tibetian locality with markets; societies that give a different kind of feeling and make you forget Delhi for a while.
